Little Inventors STEM LabProgram Schedule: Jan. 9-March 6This class will meet weekly from 11 a.m.-noon on Fridays.Recommended Ages: 3rd-5th grades Cost: $90 (members), $110 (nonmembers)Let’s learn STEM through play! In this hands-on class, young learners will explore science, technology, engineering and math through imaginative building and creative problem solving. Each week, students will design simple machines and experiment with exciting concepts like force, motion, pivots and pendulums—while also exploring patterns, symmetry, angles and 3D construction. Every session introduces a new project to inspire curiosity, creativity and teamwork. As students layer pieces into detailed builds, they will strengthen fine motor skills, spatial reasoning and confidence while making new friends and discovering a love for STEM. Students will connect real-world engineering to imagination and have fun learning how things work.As students explore STEM through play, they will: • Connect real-world engineering to imagination by designing structures that demonstrate scientific principles in playful, creative contexts.• Enhance fine-motor skills and collaboration through teamwork, structured building and open-ended exploration.• Practice geometry by identifying, describing and composing shapes to form complex structures.Meet the program instructor: Jessica Newsom Ms. Jess founded Inventors Lab to share her love and passion for helping students of all ages and backgrounds develop their skills in STEM-related topics. Jess graduated with her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona, where she also was actively involved in creating interactive labs in virtual reality (VR) for the biology department, competing with the Human-Powered Vehicle project team and hosting workshops on how to create aquaponics systems. She has spent the last nine years teaching K-12 robotics while running a center in California, and she has coached VEX Robotics competition teams at the middle school and high school levels. Outside of STEM-related activities, Jess spends her time in her workshop creating art, developing her own video games, crocheting cute animals, knitting garments and reading. Jess is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others and inspiring them to be creative and tackle cool projects.By purchasing a ticket to this event, you are agreeing to our participant release, participant policies, and social contract.Sign in or register today to become a member of Learning Lab Wichita and receive discounted program and event opportunities!
