Elementary students will journey through our solar system, discovering planets, stars and rockets and imagining what life could be like as an astronaut. This hands-on class combines science, math and creativity through engaging activities, from designing models and building simulations to exploring alien landscapes and planning space missions.Students will develop problem-solving skills, spark curiosity and strengthen critical thinking as they tackle challenges inspired by real-world space exploration. Each week, they’ll use their imaginations to envision life beyond earth while learning key STEM concepts in a fun and interactive way. Space Explorers offers a perfect mix of learning and play, inspiring young minds to reach for the stars—literally!Meet the program instructor: Jessica Newsom Ms. Jess founded Inventors Lab to share her love and passion working with students of all ages and backgrounds to develop their skills in STEM-related topics. Jess graduated with her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona, where she was also actively involved in creating interactive labs in virtual reality (VR) for the biology department, competing with the Human-Powered Vehicle project team and hosting workshops on how to create aquaponics systems. She has spent the last nine years teaching K-12 robotics while running a center in California, and she has coached VEX Robotics competition teams at the middle school and high school levels. Outside of STEM-related activities, she spends her time in her workshop creating art, developing her own video games, crocheting cute animals, knitting garments and reading.
