Students will engage their imaginations, connect literacy with hands-on creativity and discover the magic of learning through play. 9 a.m. Story Time Students will enjoy a read-aloud of “The Very Hungry Caterpillar,” setting the stage for an immersive day of exploration and creativity. 9:30 a.m. Dance a Story: The Very Hungry Caterpillar Led by professional teaching artist Joyce Gedraitis, students will retell the story using movement and drama. This kinesthetic approach reinforces understanding of the butterfly life cycle in a joyful, age-appropriate way. 10:30 a.m. Art Activity: Make Your Own Caterpillar Using construction paper, pipe cleaners, and glue, students will create their own hungry caterpillar as a take-home art project. 11:15 a.m. Special Guest Experience: KSU Extension Office The day concludes with a special guest experience from the K-State Extension Office, connecting the story to real-world learning about caterpillars and butterflies. Meet the Instructors: Arts Partners Arts Partners, a member of the national Young Audiences Arts for Learning network, integrates visual and performing arts into PreK–12 education by connecting schools with local artists and cultural organizations. The program enhances classroom learning through performances, workshops, residencies, and field trips that merge creative expression with academic study. Collaborating with teachers, teaching artists, and community partners, Arts Partners provides professional development opportunities that strengthen arts integration and curriculum design. Through this collaborative approach, the organization fosters creativity, self-expression, and problem-solving skills in students while promoting self-esteem and a lifelong love of learning. By using the arts as a powerful teaching tool, Arts Partners inspires curiosity, deepens understanding, and helps students make meaningful connections between subjects and the world around them.
