Book Club: Percy Jackson Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 3-4 p.m. Recommended Ages: 5th-12th grades Students should be proficient in their respective reading and writing levels to engage in class activities. This class is limited to 15 students. Cost: $90 (Members), $100 (Nonmembers) Explore Greek history and myth with the adventures of Percy Jackson, a modern boy on a quest involving gods and other mythical creatures. During each class meeting, students will read excerpts from "The Lightning Thief" by Rick Riordan and discuss literary devices, character, development, geography and traditional mythology. The class will not assign homework, and students will not be expected to read the book between classes. However, since we will only be reading and discussing excerpts in class, some students may wish to read the full book on their own. Book summary from the publisher: "Twelve-year-old Percy Jackson is on the most dangerous quest of his life. With the help of a satyr and a daughter of Athena, Percy must journey across the United States to catch a thief who has stolen the original weapon of mass destruction — Zeus’ master bolt.
