Beginning Spanish 1 or instructor approval is required to take this course. Attendees can expect to learn... Communication: We will continue developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills in Spanish. The teacher will speak primarily in Spanish, and students will be encouraged to use Spanish at their own level throughout class. Vocabulary: The focus will be on acquiring more high-frequency Spanish words and phrases, building on what was learned in Beginning Spanish 1.Movement: We will continue using movement to acquire vocabulary (Total Physical Response).Grammar: Students will strengthen their understanding of Spanish grammar, building on what was learned in Beginner Spanish 1. Storytelling: The class will continue to collaborate in creating and acting out original stories together in Spanish (Teaching Proficiency Through Reading and Storytelling). Reading: Students may be required to do some reading in Spanish at home as their fluency grows.Meet the program instructor: Kate Swartley Kate Swartley has a bachelor’s degree in social work from Goshen College and a Master's Degree in Spanish from Bowling Green State University. She taught Spanish for seven years at five different universities (BGSU, Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, Bluffton (OH) University, Hesston College and Bethel College) and community classes for adults. She has worked as an ESL teaching assistant at the elementary school level and a social worker at the middle school and preschool levels.
