Costume Contest

Halloween Costume Contest  Program Schedule: Thursday, Oct. 29 This event will take place in the Gather Commons from 3-3:30 p.m.  Recommended Ages: K-12th Grade Students  Cost: Free Halloween is all about creativity, imagination and having a little fun! We invite Learning Lab Wichita students to come dressed in their favorite costumes and celebrate the holiday with our K-12 community. Whether your costume is spooky, silly, clever, homemade or completely out-of-the-box, we want to see what you come up with! Our costume contest is less about having the biggest or most elaborate costume and more about celebrating creativity, personality and the joy of making something your own. Costume Contest Awards and Criteria Participating students can vote for their favorite costumes in the following categories:  Best Overall Costume: The crowd favorite! This award recognizes a costume that stands out through its overall creativity, presentation, personality, and Halloween spirit. Most Creative Costume: Think outside the costume box- this award recognizes a unique, imaginative, or unexpected costume concept. Homemade Costume: Made with creativity, this award recognizes a costume that was primarily created, designed, modified, or assembled by the student and/or their family. Purchased items can be incorporated, but the costume should include meaningful DIY creativity or customization. Staff Choice Award A special staff pick! Learning Lab Wichita staff will select one additional costume that catches their attention for its creativity, personality, craftsmanship, humor, or Halloween spirit. Costume Guidelines Students are welcome to get creative with their costumes, including spooky, scary, silly, or gory themes, as long as costumes remain safe and appropriate for our K–12 community. Please keep the following in mind: School & Age Appropriate: Costumes should be appropriate for students of all ages and respectful of our shared learning environment. Gore & Fake Blood: Fake blood, wounds, and other Halloween gore are welcome in moderation. Excessive or extreme gore may not be used if it could make it difficult for staff to identify a student or appropriately assess and provide aid during a medical emergency. Masks & Prosthetics: Costume elements may not completely obscure a student's identity or prevent staff from identifying them for safety, security, supervision, or emergency purposes. Students may be asked to remove or adjust these items when necessary.  No Fake Weapons: Fake weapons and weapon replicas of any kind are not permitted. There are no exceptions. Props & Accessories: Students are responsible for using costume props and accessories safely and respectfully. If an item becomes disruptive, unsafe, or is not being handled appropriately, staff may collect it at the front desk. Items will not be returned directly to students and must be picked up by a parent/guardian at the end of the day. Safety First: Costumes should allow students to learn productively, safely move through the facility, participate in activities and interact with others. Learning Lab Wichita staff may ask a student to remove or modify any costume element that does not meet these guidelines or creates a safety, security, or appropriateness concern.
