Junior Robotics with Vex IQ Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 2-3 p.m. Recommended Ages: 3rd-8th grades Students should be proficient in their respective reading and writing levels to engage in class activities. This class is limited to 15 students. Cost: $108 (Members), $135 (Nonmembers) Kids will work together to build a robot as a team while developing communication, collaboration, and engineering skills. With guidance from the WSU VEX Robotics Team, students will design, build, code and drive a VEX IQ robot, gaining hands-on experience with motors, sensors, programming and other robotics components. Throughout the semester, they'll watch their robot come to life through their teamwork, creativity and hard work. No previous robotics or coding experience is required. This class is designed for beginners who are excited to learn. Along the way, students will discover the engineering design process and gain real-world STEM skills they can continue to build on, both inside and outside the classroom. Meet the program instructor: Stephanie Cruz Ponce Stephanie Cruz Ponce is a student at Wichita State University who is majoring in Applied Engineering with a concentration in Process Automation. She transferred from Seward County Community College and is currently a senior. Stephanie has experience in manufacturing equipment, undergraduate research, CAD design and coding. She previously worked at her local library, where she helped children gain a passion for reading. She is currently a member of the College of Engineering Ambassadors and works with elementary schools to bring fun and engaging STEM activities to the students. She is also the current president of the WSU Vex Robotics and is excited to teach students more about STEM using Vex.
