The Case File Challenge Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 1-2 p.m. Recommended Ages: 3rd-5th grades Students should be proficient in their respective reading and writing levels to engage in class activities. This class is limited to 15 students.Cost: $120 (Members), $140 (Nonmembers) Step into the role of a crime scene investigator and uncover the science behind solving mysteries. In Junior Crime Scene Investigators, students will collect evidence, analyze clues and solve interactive cases using age-appropriate forensic techniques. Through hands-on activities and engaging challenges, participants will practice careful observation, scientific inquiry, data analysis and problem-solving skills as they work to piece together the evidence and crack each case. This immersive experience encourages curiosity, critical thinking and collaboration while introducing students to the fundamentals of forensic science. Meet the program instructor: Chitra Harris Chitra Harris is an award-winning, former high school forensic science teacher who loves educating students with aha! CSI moments and hands-on learning experiences. Chitra was instrumental in setting up the Forensic Science 1 & 2 classes in the USD 259 Career and Technical Education's pathway, Corrections, Security, Law & Law Enforcement Services. Having served on the Kansas State Board of Education's advisory committee, she was able to collaborate to develop the current state-wide Forensic Science competencies. Chitra completed her basic forensic science training at the Bertino Forensic Science Institute in New Jersey. In Wichita, teachers still replicate her innovative labs, and Bertino featured her content in updated versions of their textbooks. Chitra advanced her training with the country's best investigators at the CSI Academy in Florida, and she would love to continue to pass on her knowledge and skills to inspire students to explore the world of forensics.
