Hobby Exploration: A Cozy Craft Series Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 11 a.m.-noon Recommended Ages: 3rd-8th grades This class is limited to 15 students. Cost: $135 (Members), $150 (Nonmembers) Hobby Exploration: A Cozy Craft Series invites students to slow down, get their hands busy and discover the quiet joy of making something with care. Over the duration of the class, students will explore a rotating mix of paper crafts, coloring and drawing mediums, fiber arts and other hands-on maker projects. Students will try a new hobby every session or two. Along the way, they'll build fine motor skills, patience and confidence, while discovering which hobbies spark their own creativity. No prior craft experience is needed; students just need to bring curiosity and a willingness to try something new. By the end of the series, students will have a growing "hobby toolkit" of skills they can return to and handmade keepsakes to take home. Meet the program instructor: Jess Newsom Ms. Jess founded Jaja Labs to share her love and passion for working with students of all ages and backgrounds to develop their skills in STEM-related topics. Jess graduated with her B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Cal Poly Pomona, where she also was actively involved in creating interactive labs in virtual reality (VR) for the biology department, competing with the Human-Powered Vehicle project team and hosting workshops on how to create aquaponics systems. She has spent the last nine years teaching K-12 robotics while running a center in California, and she has coached VEX Robotics competition teams at the middle school and high school levels. Outside of STEM-related activities, Ms. Jess spends her time in her workshop creating art, developing her own video games, crocheting cute animals, knitting garments and reading. Jess is passionate about sharing her knowledge with others and inspiring them to be creative and tackle cool projects.
