Participants will learn how to create their own woven masterpieces throughout the week-long workshop through lessons in...Learning how to build your own loomHow to create woven patternsChanging colors in tapestry weavingVarious finishing and display techniquesEach student will not only have the opportunity to create their own masterpieces, but also to contribute to a collaborative large-scale community tapestry!Program Schedule: June 2nd - June 6thThis class will meet daily for one week from 9:00-11:00Studio Schedule (It’s a process!)Day 1: Introduction, creating the loom at your desired weaving size, choosing colors and design, winding on warp yarns (the “canvas” for your weaving)Day 2:  Learning different patterns and methods, weaving along with Amy, and beginning the large collaborative tapestry, a bit of art history.Day 3: Continue weaving with personalized instruction from Amy, continue learning various techniques and fun weaving facts!Day 4: Weaving workday for both individual and collaborative tapestries, learn and begin tie-off processes as you finish your design!Day 5: Take off the loom and add any final embellishments, continue working on large collab piece, prepare pieces for display or take home.Recommended Ages: 6th-12th Grades Meet the program instructor, Amy Huser!Amy is a process-oriented abstract artist from Wichita, Kansas. She received her Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Wichita State University in 2020, and her Bachelor of Fine Arts in Art History with studio emphasis in Textiles from the University of Kansas in 2014.  Amy loves helping other people discover and develop their creativity! She taught design, drawing, painting, and textile courses at Wichita State and in various workshops over the years.  Her artistic career ranges from her own life-long art practice, to having managed private art collections on the East Coast, to managing operations of large-scale public art projects here in Wichita.  Amy’s art has been featured in local galleries, and her new collection will be seen in an exhibition at Art House 310 beginning on March 7, 2025.
