Forensic Files: Crime Scene Investigators Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. Recommended Ages: 6th-8th gradesThis class is limited to 15 students. Cost: $120 (Members), $140 (Nonmembers) Students dive into the world of forensic science through immersive crime scene simulations, evidence analysis and investigative challenges. As aspiring detectives, participants will learn how to observe carefully, identify and interpret evidence, analyze data and use scientific reasoning to solve mysteries. Through hands-on activities and creative problem-solving exercises, students will strengthen their critical thinking skills, learn to approach challenges from multiple perspectives and build confidence as investigators. This engaging experience encourages curiosity and prepares students to become thoughtful, skilled problem solvers in science and beyond. Meet the program instructor: Chitra Harris Chitra Harris is an award-winning, former high school forensic science teacher who loves educating students with aha! CSI moments and hands-on learning experiences. Chitra was instrumental in setting up the Forensic Science 1 & 2 classes in the USD 259 Career and Technical Education's pathway, Corrections, Security, Law & Law Enforcement Services. Having served on the Kansas State Board of Education's advisory committee, she was able to collaborate to develop the current state-wide Forensic Science competencies. Chitra completed her basic forensic science training at the Bertino Forensic Science Institute in New Jersey. In Wichita, teachers still replicate her innovative labs, and Bertino featured her content in updated versions of their textbooks. Chitra advanced her training with the country's best investigators at the CSI Academy in Florida, and she would love to continue to pass on her knowledge and skills to inspire students to explore the world of forensics.
