Crabbylegs and the Three Shells Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 9-10 a.m. Recommended Ages: K-5th grades This class is limited to 15 students. Cost: $90 (Members), $108 (Nonmembers) In this Fun Friday program, students in grades K-5 grow as readers through music, movement and performance. Older students partner with younger students, building confidence, leadership and a sense of community across grade levels. As students read “Crabbylegs and the Three Shells,” they explore the story through singing, drumming, movement and acting. They learn about characters, important story details, and new vocabulary while discovering why taking care of the environment- and not littering- matters to their community. Each Friday session builds toward a mini-theatre performance, where students act out and sing the story for their families. Older students help guide and mentor younger classmates throughout the process, strengthening reading fluency and comprehension while learning responsibility and teamwork. This joyful, creative experience helps students see themselves as readers, performers, and responsible community members – each with an important role in keeping their world clean and caring for the environment. Meet the instructors: Arts Partners Arts Partners, part of the national Young Audiences Arts for Learning network, connects schools with local artists and cultural organizations to integrate visual and performing arts into PreK-12 education. Through performances, workshops, residencies and professional development, the program enhances classroom learning and supports arts-integrated curriculum design. By using the arts as a teaching tool, Arts Partners fosters creativity, self-expression, problem-solving and a lifelong love of learning.
