The Emotion Control Room Program Schedule: Oct. 23-Dec. 18 This class will meet weekly on Fridays from 10-11 a.m. Recommended Ages: Kindergarten-5th grades This class is limited to 15 students. Cost: $100 (Members), $110 (Nonmembers) The Emotion Control Room invites students to explore what happens inside their minds through the characters and story of “Inside Out.” Each week, students will watch a short segment of the movie and participate in a guided discussion and creative, hands-on activity connected to the featured theme. Students will explore the purpose of emotions, healthy ways to express sadness and anger, fear and personal boundaries, core memories, mixed emotions and tools for managing overwhelming thoughts and reactions. Through art, movement, games, reflection and conversation, students will strengthen emotional awareness, empathy, self-expression and regulation skills. Designed for both returning and new students, this nine-week class makes emotional learning fun, relatable and meaningful. Meet the program instructor: Candice Smith Candice Smith, MBA, is the founder & CEO of State of Becoming, an organization through which she creates engaging learning experiences that help young people better understand themselves, express their emotions, build confidence and make thoughtful choices. She currently facilitates social-emotional learning programs through Learning Lab Wichita and the Sedgwick County Juvenile Detention Facility. Her professional experience includes youth and community engagement, program development, leadership development and eight years with Toyota Motor North America. Candice uses storytelling, creative activities, movement, games and guided conversation to make meaningful topics accessible and enjoyable for children. She is passionate about creating welcoming spaces where every child feels seen, respected and encouraged to participate, while developing practical skills they can use at home, at school, and in their relationships.
